Thoughts
Fads are happening all the time. We see it in clothing fashion. I personally miss the parachute pants! Many years ago preachers preached against cars and how these machines were just a fad. What are some fads that we are seeing today?
Texting, Twilight, Emo, Go Green, Harry Potter, Video Games, etc. These are just a few things that are recognized as fads but which of these are going to stick around for a while?
Texting? Is it the new way to communicate? Sure it gets to the point when saying "meet me at The Station Grill" but does it do something else? I think texting is great yet it feels like it's taking away from real life communication. It is a less personal way to communicate with people. Fad or permanent?
Twilight series? Is this book series going to be monumental change to our history as we know it? There is some controversy over this book. As we have seen in the past books like this cause some ripples in the pond but doesn't make a big splash that would change the pond permanently. There will always be another Twilight series, another Harry Potter. But there will never be another Jesus Christ who's true story changes lives!
Emo? A few years ago it was Goth now it's Emo. Being sad, depressed, and negative is a way for people to get around dealing with life. Instead of just getting through it they dwell on the fact that sometimes things in life don't work out. Of course this does not get anyone anywhere but guess they are too depressed to see that.
Finally on a topic that I enjoy...Video Games. Where reality (you the gamer) faces virtual reality (the video game world). Like playing outside with sticks and gi joes I found that video games gave me a place to be that hero, to be that good guy. Video Games are great for encouraging creativity and community. Of course it depends on the games you play but most video games have a multi player mode that allows them to play with other players. This in itself creates many problems but what once was a fad I believe is turning into being apart of our lives. Scary as this sounds I think it will happen in the next decade or so. Video games are being seen on the same level as sports and in some respects a way of life. Yes there are some people who make a living off of video games. Not just creating video games but by playing them! This is one fad that is turning into something more!
So here are my thoughts on fads hope you enjoyed!

Youth Group Kickoff

The Kickoff was great! Running around in the dark woods hiding from "Romans" (Parents) as the "Christians" (Teens) was great! Some of us got a little muddy but it was worth it in the end! Youth Group has started with a blaze of fire. We attempted to put out the bonfire with mini squirt guns. This was part of an object lesson. The teens learned how we are on fire for God. Sometimes we allow ourselves to be separated from other Christians making it easier for Satan to put out our flame. We as Christians should be like a campfire. Together it's a blaze that is not easily put out, but separate it is extinguish easily. We can see biblical examples in Ecclesiastes 4:12
"An enemy might defeat one person, but two people together can defend themselves; a rope that is woven of three strings is hard to break." (NCV).
We hope (weather permitting) to have many more bonfires during youth group. CRASH is the Sr. High 9-12 and Middle school (name is a work in progress) is 6-8. CRASH meets every Sunday 6pm-8pm. Middle school meets on the second or third Wednesday of each month. The whole youth group (6-12 grade) meets the last Sunday of every month in a worship and fellowship service.
